Description:
Thank you for your interest in submitting to the Essays section of minor literature[s].
We welcome all forms of critical writing, including creative nonfiction and reportage. Work that incorporates photography, music, video, and other multimedia components while still focusing on literature[s] are appreciated, though the words are the most important thing. Authors should own all rights for anything submitted (images, sound, video, etc) or link to files that are hosted on the authors’ own website or to another easily accessible site (such as Wikimedia).
We do not accept pitches, only complete manuscripts.
Literature[s] should be understood e x p a n s i v e l y , encompassing, among other things, architecture, biography, film, historiography, music, painting, performance, philosophy, photography, sculpture, theater, translation, and video; though we are particularly interested in work that critically engages with independent presses, writers, and writing that exist beyond the mainstream. Send us essays that help to contextualize, analyze, and evaluate the art and culture of today. Draw connections among seemingly disparate lines of descent. Lay bare the practices that meaningfully bring our world into question.
Guidelines:
Get to know us and the types of essays we publish before submitting your unpublished work for consideration. Rarely will we publish something less than 800 words or more than 2500 words. Please do not submit anything that does not fall within this range. Also, do not resubmit work that has been previously rejected by us unless specifically requested to do so.
Submissions should be formatted in 12 point font (ideally Times New Roman), with double spacing.
Bio:
Your brief bio should include your name, your location, and mention of one or two recent publications. Also, feel free to include social media handles and your personal website. All other information will be deleted.
More Guidance:
Heed the minor by avoiding ableist, biased, classist, cliched, heternormative, homophobic, misogynistic, racist, sexist, theory-laden, transphobic, unnecessarily gendered, violent language.
Heed literature by not conflating it with the publishing industry, belletrism, or marketing.
